ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Libraries are service institutions. The distinguishing characteristic of librarianship is service . Library and Information Services are facing many changes and challenges due to the massive development of ICT. Over time, the library received an increasing number of requests for assistance with visualization services or instruction. Visualization is a good way to help people interact both with the data that we have and the data that we can help people find. Dr. S. R. Ranganathan in his second Law of Library Science stated that, "Books for All" as a corollary it is "Information for All" and "Information Services to All". An innovative library service is to focus on the users and it helps to achieve high levels of patron's satisfaction. This is made possible by the adoption of IT in libraries which will provide value added services using electronic medium that result in quick delivery of information products and services. Online services have emerged out of a combination of economic circumstances, the possibilities opened by computer and communication networks and the need to deal with the increased flow of published information both print and electronic forms..
The library has the opportunity to be the place not just where knowledge is disseminated but where knowledge can be created, and data visualization can actually help support the research life cycle-not just the communication of research but the analysis and asking of questions as well. With datasets emerging as a new type of content for collection and analysis, many libraries are not only helping students and faculty acquire datasets, and hosting those they create, but debuting innovative services that assist graduate students and faculty with expressing their findings effectively through data visualization. Keeping these developments in mind the The Department of Library Services, CMC Vellore and International Library and Information Science Society (I-LISS), (Formerly, Library and Information Science Society for Asia and the Pacific (LISSASPAC) is organizing One Day National Workshop on "Visualizing Library Services in 2030" on 27th April 2019.
